About

I have been an organizer and organization builder for the past 20 years. My primary work has been with SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice). I have been in a leadership role in SURJ since a month after it started in 2009. I’m proud of the base that we have built over the past 15 years. SURJ is the largest organization in history explicitly organizing white people for racial justice. As the co-director of the National Organizing Department, it was exciting to be part of implementing impactful creative multi-issue, multi-tactic strategy. I have supervised, strategized, communicated across departments, built structures, and worked with a great team of people to grow our organization alongside other racial justice left feminist movement organizations.

At SURJ I was lovingly called the “Vibes Captain” due to my attention to creating a nourishing space of belonging. I have always loved the creative, spiritual, and cultural aspects of organization and movement building.

From 2008-2018 I was the executive director of Operation Welcome Home, a housing justice organization that was part of Take Back the Land.

I have played a leading role in winning campaigns such as blocking the building of a new jail, creating 100 units of low-income housing, starting co-op housing for unhoused youth, and passing trans health care for county workers. I’ve worked on issues related to immigrant rights, native sovereignty, black liberation, anti-violence, economic justice, queer and trans liberation, disability justice, and white-antiracism.

With an MFA in creative nonfiction I am in the process of writing the forthcoming biography on Carla Wallace called Mending the Wedge. Poetry is something that I have always written and performed alongside my movement work. Whether poetry, op-eds, or freelance articles, I have been published in various anthologies, local newspapers, and national publications. I love the intersection of art, and organizing.

Graphic design and making beautiful multimedia projects is a passion of mine. I have supported authors with their social media presence by creating promotional materials for their books. I have also designed materials for events and hosted a variety of celebrations, member meetings, and banquets. As part of a local public access radio station I hosted an annual radio show for three years called Up and Coming and Underground Women, Queer, and Trans People in Hip Hop.
